Welcome to Voices in Your Head! Thanks to everybody who tried out!
Voices in Your Head would like to thank everyone who came out to audition for the 2011-2012 season. We heard a lot of fantastic singers, and after lengthy consideration, we would like to call back the following people for our next round of auditions:
Elisabeth Del Toro
Congratulations to those called back! If you weren't called back, please realize that it is very hard for us to pick just a few names from such a large audition pool. Some of our current members weren't accepted on their first try either, so please consider auditioning again next year!
We are holding auditions for the 2012-2013 school year! Auditions will be held on October 2nd and 3rd in Cobb Hall. You can sign up for auditions either by emailing us directly, or by coming to the Showcase on Monday, October 1st, and signing up with us after we perform.
We are happy to announce that our single Titanium was selected to be on Voices Only 2012! A huge thanks to Corey Slutsky and the folks at Voices Only for the honor. For more information about Voices Only, and to get your own copy of the compilation, click here. Titanium is the fourth Voices in Your Head track to be selected for Voices Only; We're excited to be featured among some of our aca-friends like Oregon On the Rocks, Tufts sQ!, Brandeis VoiceMale, Northeastern University Nor'Easters, and the Michigan G-Men. Happy listening, and don't forget, the music video for Titanium is coming your way soon!

Stay tuned for the music video, which will be coming out this summer!
After a whirlwind weekend in New York City at ICCA Finals, where we placed fourth overall, Voices has settled back into Chicago. A huge, heartfelt thank you to all of our friends, families, and fans who supported us along the road to ICCAs. We're incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and so thankful to Varsity Vocals for providing us with an event we'll never forget. Congratulations to all of the other groups who competed on their amazing work!
This weekend, Voices and Men In Drag traveled to Boston to compete and participate in the first ever Boston Sings a cappella festival at MIT. The weekend yielded several exciting accomplishments for Voices: we won the collegiate competition, which gave us the opportunity to open for the BOSS professional showcase, take a masterclass with Cadence, and record with pro talent.
Voices was also successful at the CARA awards on Friday night: Chris Rishel won for best mixed arrangement, and we placed runner-up in three other categories: best mixed album, song (for I'd Like To) and solo (Elspeth Michaels for "I'd Like To"). Congratulations to all!
Voices in Your Head came in first place at the ICCA Midwest Semifinal this weekend. We are so honored and excited to go to finals at the Town Hall in New York (and you can get tickets here). We are especially proud of Alex Gilewicz and Ryan Bober for their Outstanding Choreography award, and Chris Rishel for winning Outstanding Arrangement. Congratulations to the amazing Dicks and Janes and G-Men for winning runners-up!
|Voices in Your Head has been selected to compete at Boston Sings A Cappella Festival (BOSS) this April. We are so excited to travel to Boston with our friends and co-competitors Men in Drag for a weekend of workshops, concerts, parties and FIERCE COMPETITION. We will also be getting all gussied up for the red carpet (That's right! Red carpet!), as the 2012 CARAs will also be presented live at BOSS. We can't wait!|
Voices in Your Head is so proud to announce that we won first place at our ICCA quarterfinal yesterday! Special congratulations are due to Chris Rishel for taking home the Outstanding Arrangement award for both We Found Love and Titanium; and to Alex Gilewicz and Ryan Bober for winning Outstanding Choreography. We are proud to announce that our album I Used to Live Alone is now available through A Cappella Records' HD store. The ACR HD bundle comes with the album (in sparkly HD), full color digital booklet, 11 "instrumental" tracks, concept album details, lyrics for every track, and lots of other goodies. It's also only $9.99 when you buy in HD from the A Cappella Records website (that's cheaper than the regular AND deluxe versions on iTunes).
We are so excited to announce the start of our East Coast Winter Break Tour, a first-ever for Voices. We'll be hitting up Ithaca, Boston and finally New York, singing with some amazing collegiate groups: Brandeis Voicemale, Cornell Last Call, Ithacapella, The MIT Chorallaries, and Tufts sQ!. We'll be capping off our week-long tour with a performance in Times Square with The Red States. Along the way, we'll also be performing at high schools, connecting with alumni, and generally bonding as a
cultgroup. Check out our events page for dates and details of gigs, and make sure to keep an eye on our blog and our twitter (@uchicagovoices) for updates on tour shenanigans!
Our original song, Sharp, has been chosen by The Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA) for their newest compilation album, Sing 8: Too Cubed. We are so honored to be chosen again (from a record number of submissions, AND as only one of three scholastic originals!) after last year's appearance of Boomerang on Sing 7. The album will be available on iTunes or a-cappella.com starting November 14th, but in the meantime...
"Sharp" is now available for listening on YouTube!
Now you, too, can sing along to what CASA has dubbed the "Best. Syllables. Ever." Enjoy!
Earlier today, the Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB) released a very positive review of our latest album, I Used to Live Alone (available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, or uBazaar). We are thrilled to have been given an overall score of 4.7 (on a 5pt scale), and are so grateful to the reviewers (Jonathan Minkoff, Robert Dietz, and Nick Anderson-Frey) for their kind words. We're glad you enjoyed the album, and are already working on our next project - stay posted!
Here are some of our favorite snippets from the reviews:
"[Voices in Your Head] has become one of the fastest rising stars in collegiate a cappella... Any college group that finds itself simply imitating covers will have its world opened up with a few listens to Voices' relentless creativity." --Jonathan Minkoff
"From the sleek concept of the jacket art, to the thoughtful execution of its original material, there is no question that we're being treated to something with vision." --Robert Dietz
"I Used to Live Alone is a supremely professional effort from Voices in Your Head, a talented and ambitious collegiate group... The album is polished, with Voices in Your Head exhibiting the most consistent group sound I've heard in a collegiate a cappella group since the Tufts Beelzebubs on Code Red... A cappella is gradually becoming cooler and cooler, and it appears that Voices in Your Head is at the forefront of this movement." --Nick Anderson-Frey
